Tuesday August 13 WOW General Meeting

“Here Comes the Judge” Why we Need Progressive Judges in the Texas Judiciary

3 prominent judges will participate on a panel: Judge Dennise Garcia, 303rd Family District Court, Judge Gena Slaughter, 191st Judicial District Court, and (WOW member) Judge Elizabeth Frizell, Criminal District Court 7. These judges represent a broad cross-section of the judicial system covering family, civic, and criminal courts. (We think Judges Garcia and Slaughter plan to run for the 5th District Court of Appeals, a 6-County area including Collin and Dallas.) Each judge will speak about their background and judicial area, and then the panel will take questions from the audience.

Some questions that may be of interest to our group:

  • Why are judges important to us and our issues (i.e. environment, women’s rights, education, gun carry, income disparity, minimum wage, voter rights, union rights, etc.)?
  • How can we help elect progressive judges?
  • Why is it so important to have progressive women as District and Appellate Judges?
  • How does the Appellate system work – State and Federal levels?
  • How are Grand Juries selected and handled?
  • How does the judicial branch impact legislation?

 Time to renew your membership

WOW Dems relies on membership donations to pay for our regular operating expenses.

Please log on here to renew your membership for 2015 or to join for the first time. Our goal is to increase the number of women who are interested in learning more about the political process and possibly running for office. Our best recruiting tool is word of mouth so we encourage you to bring a friend to a meeting or event. Let’s make a concerted effort to expand our membership in 2015.

Thanks for your support.
