WOW Dems Fun – March ‘Money’ Madness

Thank you to all our members and supporters who joined us last Tuesday for March ‘Money’ Madness at Desperados Mexican Restaurant – the first WOW Dems fundraiser of the year. It was a festive evening of great food and margaritas and fun people. It was a treat to see our members, their families and friends, while raising some money to elect women Democrats. Alan Beck won the coveted door prize – an autographed copy of Senator Kirsten Gillibrand’s new book, Off the Sidelines. For those of you who weren’t able to attend, our very own Sharon Hirsch (past WOW Dems president) spoke about her candidacy for Plano ISD Board of Directors Place 4. Find out more about Sharon’s campaign and how you can help at The election will be coming up in May.

Planned Parenthood Lobby Day

Many WOW Dems members went on the Planned Parenthood bus to Austin for an exciting day at the Capitol, speaking to our legislators about preserving women’s access to preventative healthcare and family planning. More in depth discussion in next newsletter.

B.R.O.A.D.S. (Book Readers of a Democratic Slant). We had a great turnout for the March book selection: The Working Poor: Invisible in America by DK Shipler. (Note this book was on the Highland Park ISD list of banned books for this year.) Even if you missed book club this time, you should still read this book to have greater understanding of what life is like for millions of struggling Americans. Stay tuned for announcement of the next book for May. Or you may contact Diane Groves at [email protected] for more details.

If you weren’t able to make these events we have several more great events and fundraisers coming up in spring:
