WOW Dems January Newsletter

WOW Dems is off to a great start in 2015. Our first General Meeting on January 8th was packed, with many new people attending for the first time!

Many thanks to our past president Sharon Hirsch for doing an amazing job organizing and leading WOW Dems. Thanks to all of our efforts, we raised thousands of dollars which we donated to our great local Democratic women candidates! Not to mention all the time and energy our volunteers spent in registering new voters, phone-banking and knocking on doors to get out the vote. Though the election results were disappointing, we could not be prouder. Our women candidates were front and center in standing up for women’s rights, education, and equality. In 2015, we will continue to stand up for women’s issues, especially now that the Legislative sessions are upon us.

We need your help! We will be going to Austin, calling, writing and telling our elected officials where we stand. If you haven’t already done so, please join WOW Dems today!

We also need you to select a committee of your liking, so that we can work on events, recruit and support women candidates to run for all kinds of positions, build our membership and spread the word!

Thanks to you for supporting our mission of raising awareness of women’s issues. With your continued support, we will get Democratic women elected!

President, WOW Democrats

Quarterly Meeting – Thursday, January 8th

Our first quarterly meeting of 2015 was held on Thursday, January 8th at the Environmental Education Center, Plano.

The new executive Board was elected, including Lori Kleinfield as President, Hazel Weathers as Vice President, Sharon OToole as Secretary and Sharon Hager as Treasurer.

Many thanks to Past President Sharon Hirsch for doing an amazing job organizing and leading WOW Dems to prominence, and to outgoing Chief Financial Officer Mary Hooks on her many years of outstanding service.

The meeting included introduction of our new committee chairs. Barb Walters then led a freewheeling brainstorming session called POW WOW, after which we broke into committees to come up with unique ideas to start working on now. We’re looking forward to an exciting year, with School Board and other elections coming up. We expect to have some of our members run and win!

Time to renew your membership

WOW Dems relies on membership donations to pay for our regular operating expenses.

Please log on here to renew your membership for 2015 or to join for the first time. We would love to increase the number of women who are interested in learning more about the political process and possibly running for office. Our best recruiting tool is word of mouth. Bring a friend to a meeting or event – let’s make a concerted effort to expand our membership in the New Year.

Thanks for your support.

WOW Dems – How to Get Involved

To get the most out of WOW Dems, we encourage you to join one of our committees. Most of our organization’s work takes place at the committee level, and while we will have quarterly meetings and other social and political events and activities throughout the year, joining a committee is the best way to get know members and build relationships within our community.
