WOW Dems Members:

While summer is a time for rest and relaxation for many people, WOW Dems continues to move ahead on several exciting activities. First off, tickets are now on sale for our August 23rd fundraiser “Wearing it for the Win.” This luncheon event features guest speaker Gloria Campos, former long time WFAA Channel 8 news anchor, along with a resale fashion show and silent auction. This will be the only major fundraiser of the year for WOW and we plan to make it a great one. Sponsorships are still available, which include two tickets to the event and an opportunity to be seated at lunch with Gloria Campos. Check out the Act Blue page for details. Please note: WOW members will receive a $5 discount for purchasing tickets before July 15th. Our venue has limited seating so ACT NOW to reserve your seat.

Our next quarterly meeting will be held on Thursday, July 10th at the Environmental Education Center, 4116 W. Plano Parkway, Plano 75093. Sarah Slamen will be our guest speaker. You may remember that Sarah earned national attention for her testimony during the public commentary on SB1, the legislation filibustered by Senator Wendy Davis. Meet and greet begins at 6:30 with the program starting at 7 p.m. As an added bonus, the Sameena Karmally campaign is hosting a dinner at 5 p.m. prior to our meeting providing some extra time to visit with both Sameena and Sarah. Please RSVP and purchase your ticket for the dinner at this link.

Want to get your 4th of July festivities off to a great start? The Democratic Party of Collin County is participating in the annual Plano Lions Independence Day parade and would like to have WOW Dems join them. Jeanette Kelley and Lori Kleinfield have agreed to lead the way carrying our banner and we need more WOW Dems, along with your families, to follow along. Please respond to this email ASAP if you can attend and I will get details out to you. The parade is scheduled from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. beginning at the Plano ISD Administration Building and ending at Plano Senior High.

Annie’s List will be conducting their Candidate 101 Training in Dallas on July 12th. Cost to register for the all-day event is $25.00. WOW Dems will reimburse four members interested in attending. If you’re thinking of running for office at any level or would like to learn more about campaigns, please consider registering. Reply to me for details on securing reimbursement.

Congratulations to WOW Dems member Barb Walters who was elected as the Assistant County Chair for the Democratic Party of Collin County at last week’s CEC meeting. Barb brings a wealth of knowledge and an endless supply of energy to this position. Look for good things happening in Collin County.

Thanks to everyone who has been volunteering, block walking, phone banking, fundraising, etc. for WOW Dems, BGTX, your county party, and candidates. Your efforts are noticed, and you will play a major role in turning Texas blue. If you’re attending the convention this weekend, have a great time and plan to share highlights with us on July 10th. Don’t forget to stop by The Ladies Room to take a break from convention activities or participate in some of the excellent programs and entertainment that will be offered.

As always, let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
