Letter From WOW Dems President

Letter From WOW Dems President

We are pleased to have made it through the primary election and successful senate district conventions. Many WOW Dems have worked hard to register voters, support candidates, and ensure that the elections and conventions ran smoothly. There is still much work to be done in order to help our Democratic candidates win in November.

We held our first $20.14 in 2014 event on March 1st. Our plan is to continue to offer these small social gatherings for members throughout the year. This is a great opportunity to enjoy like-minded company and raise extra funds for our women candidates. When you join WOW, you will receive more information about these fun events.

If you have not joined us yet, please consider becoming a part of one of the most dynamic groups in North Texas. For more information and a link to our website, click here.

Second quarterly meeting of 2014
Our second quarterly meeting is just around the corner. On April 10, we will meet at the Environmental Education Center, 4116 W. Plano Pkwy, in Plano. Meet and greet is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with our program beginning at 7 p.m. A representative from Battleground Texas will speak about how their organization is supporting Wendy Davis and all Democratic candidates. If you have been wondering what Battleground Texas is all about, bring your questions. You will learn about the past, present, and future of Battleground Texas. Plan to attend to catch up with your Democratic friends and enjoy an informative program. Hope to see you on the 10th.

We will have Wendy Davis yard signs available featuring our very own design. Suggested donation is $8. Remember – funds raised by WOW Dems will help support our programs as well as women candidates.

In memory of Kelley Van Auken

Our dear friend and loyal Democrat, Kelley Van Auken, passed away on March 22, 2014. The initial success of Democratic women organizing in Collin County is largely due to Kelley’s wisdom and passion for politics. As Lynn Wolfe said, “That girl squeezed a whole lot of living into a too-short stay on planet earth.” Meredith Fisherman said what we all know, “Kelley was an incredibly amazing and dynamic person.” And Barb Walters noted “She was wiser than the ages and made things happen.” We all feel very fortunate to have had Kelley in our lives.

WOW Dems – How to Get Involved
To get the most out of WOW Dems, we encourage you to join one of our committees. Most of our organization’s work takes place at the committee level, and while we will have quarterly meetings and other social and political events and activities throughout the year, joining a committee is the best way to get know members and build relationships within our community.
