Update: Sexual Assault in the Military

Back in June, WOW Dems hosted a screening of The Invisible War, a powerful film about sexual assault in the military. As we mentioned in the discussion following the film, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) has proposed legislation to change the prosecution of military sexual assaults.

Her efforts are gaining momentum within the Senate, most recently with Senators Rand Paul (R-KY) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) joining the bi-partisan effort to create an independent, non-biased military justice system for victims of sexual assault when the defense bill comes to the Senate floor. So far, the proposal has 34 co-sponsors with 41 Senators publicly supporting the legislation.

You can take action on this bill right now by contacting TX Sen. John Cornyn at 202-224-2934 and asking him to publicly support this legislation.
