Just a reminder that book club will be at Diane Groves’ house on May 22. The book selection is Twilight of the Elites: By Christopher Hayes.
Over the past decade, Americans watched in bafflement and rage as one institution after another – from Wall Street to Congress, the Catholic Church to corporate America, even Major League Baseball – imploded under the weight of corruption and incompetence. Christopher Hayes offers a radically novel answer. Since the 1960s, as the meritocracy elevated a more diverse group of men and women into power, they learned to embrace the accelerating inequality that had placed them near the very top. Twilight of the Elites is the defining work of social criticism for the post-bailout age.
As always it will start at 6:30 for social time with discussion starting at 7:00 and ending somewhere around 8:30. Feel free to bring and appetizer or wine to share.
If you have read the book, try to think about a “take-away” that struck you. We try to go around the room and hear from everyone. If you didn’t read the book, please come for the socializing and a little respite from the Republican habitat we find ourselves in here in Collin County!
